| Eminent persons | | ALBERT ARSHAVIRI MAKARYAN | Doctor- Professor of Philological Sciences
Makaryan was born in Dilijan in 1958. In 1975 he finished the secondary school N1. In 1976 Makaryan entered and graduated from the Yerevan State University in 1981, the faculty of Armenian Philology. In the same year he took the post-graduated course. In 1986 he defended a Ph.D. thesis and a doctoral thesis in 2002. He is the author of valuable scientific papers on Hakob Paronyan’s “People’s foremen” (Yerevan, 1988), “West-Armenian literal portrait” (Yerevan, 2002), “Hakob Paronyan in contemporaries’ memoirs and illustrations” (Yerevan, 2004), “Harutoun Alamdaryan” (Yerevan, 2005) and more than 40 scientific articles.
Now he lectures at the Yerevan State University at the Faculty of Armenian Philology.

| ARTHUR ARTUSHI SAHAKYAN | Doctor–Professor of Mathematical Sciences, Corresponding Member of National Academy of Armenia.
He was born in Dilijan in 1956. He studied at school N1, afterwards at Yerevan State University at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics and Moscow All-Union post-graduate course after Steklov. In 1981 he defended the Ph.D. thesis and later on in 1998- the doctoral thesis. Now A.Sahakyan works at the Yerevan State University as the Head of Mathematical Analysis Department.
He is the author of more than 50 scientific papers.

| HRACHIK SERGOYI HAYRAPETYAN | Doctor- Professor of Mathematical Sciences
H. Hayrapetyan was born in 1946, October 25 in Dilijan. In 1964 he finished the secondary school N1 and entered the Faculty of Mathematics of the Yerevan State University.
In 1975 he defended a thesis at the State University and got the degree of candidate of physico-mathematical sciences.
In 1993 he uphold a thesis on the topic “Riman-Hilbert’s finite problem in terms of average convergence and its applications in theory of elliptical equation” at the Moscow State University and got a Doctor of Science degree.
Since 1994 he works at the State Engineering University of Armenia as the Professor of the Department of Mathematics.
Since 2000 H. Hayrapetyan is the Head of the Department of Mathematics Professional Education. He published more than 40 scientific papers. Hayrapetyan is the member of the Council confirming the scientific degrees, member of the American Mathematical Union. Since 2003 he is the Head of Armenian Mathematical Union.

| ARSHAVIR ANDREI TOROSYAN | 1932-2003 Doctor- Professor of Medicine
Arshavir Torosyan was born in village Mets Pamach of Akhaltskha Region. He graduated from the Yerevan Medical Institute. In 1960-1996 A.Torosyan worked at Dilijan hospital as a physician, later on – as the Head of Therapeutics Medical Department.
In 1996-2003 A.Torosyan worked at Yerevan Medical University named after Mkhitar Heratsi, Hi-Busak University and Traditional University. He is the author of “Medicinal Herbs of Armenia” (Yerevan, 1983), “Medical Reference-book of Deseases” (Yerevan, 1998-2001), about 150 scientific papers and articles concerning the treatment with herbs.
A.Torosyan was engaged in literal activity as well.
He is the author of some collections of poems such as “With My Days”,
“Alarming Autumn”, “Cri de Coeur”.

| GAGIK STEPANI DAVTYAN | 20.09.1909-09.03.1980 Аgrochemist
He was born and got his elementary education in Dilijan.
Research activities apply to cycle of matter study in atmospheric precipitates-irrigation water-soil-plant system and the industrial production of plants in simulated conditions.
He was awarded with orders of Lenin (2), Labor Red Flag, Sign of Honor, Peoples’ Friendship and with medal after D.N. Pryashnikov. He is the Director of The Institute of agrochemical problems and hydroponics (1958-1980). Secretary of the Academy (1955, 1967-1971).
The Vice-Chairman of Ministers Council of Armenian SSR (1955-1957).
The Head of Yerevan State University (1957-1961).
G.Davtyan graduated from the Yerevan State University in 1930. He became the Candidate of Life Sciences (1941), Professor (1944), Academician (1950, the Corresponding Member (1947)).
G.Davtyan is the honored worker of the Armenian SSR (1961). The Institute of hydroponics problems of the Republic of Armenia is named after G.DAvtyan (1995).

| MUSHEGH SANTROSYAN | 1(13)01.1894-16.09.1972
Doctor- Professor of Pedagogical Sciences
One of the Armenian outstanding scientists in the field of Pedagogy Mushegh Santrosyan was born and got his elementary education in Dilijan.
In 1920 he was appointed a Head of Popular Schooling Department and was elected a Chairman of the Executive Committee of the District Soviet of People's Deputies education in Dilijan. In 1922 he entered the Moscow Academy of Communist Education. After graduating from it he worked at Yerevan State University as the Dean of Teacher-Training Department.
In 1934 he was appointed the Director of new Teacher-Training Institute in Yerevan. M.Santrosyan was conferred the rank of honored worker. He is the author of a number of scientific papers.

| ANAHIT ARSHAKI ANANYAN | 27.08.1900-1987 Selectionist, expert on vegetable-growing
Doctor of Аgricultural Sciences (1966), Нonored Worker of sciences of RA, Hero of Socialist Labour (1971). She graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture of the Tbilisi Polytechnic Institute.
Since 1953 she worked at the Republican vegetables and melons and gourds’ selection station of the Armenian SSR (in 1949-84 the director of this station).
A.Ananyan got tomato new breeds such as “Anahit-20”, “Jubilee-26”, “Zvartnots” and is the author of “Preserving vegetable cultures of Armenia” scientific paper (1965).

| VAKHTANG STEPANI ANANYAN | 1905-1980 Writer, the honored worker of culture
V.Ananyan made an important contribution to hunters’ tales development. His adventure works such as “At Sevan lakeside”, “Captives of Hovazadzor” are well-known. His works are translated into many languages.

| RUDOLPH MAMIKONI VATINYAN | R.Vatinyan was born in Dilijan in 1941.
In 1959 he finished the secondary school N1.
In 1965-1970 he studied at the Faculty of Operators at Moscow Cinematographers’ All-Union Institute.
From 1970 up to now R. Vatinyan works at “Hay-film” film studio as a cameraman. He has shot 35 films.
Vatinyan was twice awarded by state prize. He worked at the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinema as a Head of Cinematography Department.
He is the Secretary of Cinematographers’ Union of Armenia.

| SHAHUMYAN BROTHERS | Shahumyan brothers spent their youth and got education in Dilijan.
Vaghinak Shahumyan is the Doctor- Professor of agricultural sciences, he was the Director of the Kostroma Agricultural Institute. Vaghinak Shahumyan has governmental high awards and is the honored worker of science.
Grigor Shahumyan (Vaghinak’s brother) is the Doctor-Professor of Technical sciences. He was honored with governmental award.
